On March 25, 2025, the Navajo Veterans Organization sponsored an inaugural event to honor and celebrate women veterans, surviving spouses, Gold Star and Blue Star mothers, and Silver Star mothers. It was sponsored by Navajo Nation Oil & Gas.
All sixteen chapters in the Chinle Chapter of the Navajo Veterans Association were invited. Women from Lukachukai, Round Rock, Rock Point, Pinon, and the local areas attended the event. A one-hundred-year-old surviving spouse couldn’t make it inside because her wheelchair malfunctioned. She came with her daughter, who is her caretaker. Another elderly surviving spouse caught the early transit bus to attend. She stated that she needed to be at the event.

There was no prepared agenda. Cecelia Price kept the event going as M.C. Attendees received goody bags. Additionally, there were door prizes raffled from various generous donors.
Lunch was provided by Theresa and her family, who prepared the main dish.
We had the privilege of having Lt. Colonel (Retired Army) Dana Allmond, Chief of the Office of Veterans and Military Family Affairs, Arizona Department of Economic Security and Military, attend the Women’s History Month event. She mingled with the ladies. The executive director, Valerie Allen, shared the reason for the incorporation of the Navajo Veterans Organization and its future.
Sad stories were shared. However, the highlight of the event was telling hilarious real-life stories.
A Successful Women’s History Month Event!
Yes. We made unforgettable friends. Furthermore, as a result of the event, we gained 2 new volunteers for the organization!
The Navajo Veterans Organization will meet quarterly with women veterans, surviving spouses, Gold/Blue, and Silver Star mothers. The next one is in June.
